Ashvane Mythic

This guide assumes you are familiar with the Heroic version of the fight. As such, I won't discuss how Heroic mechanics work, and will focus exclusively on the Mythic mechanics, changes, and strategy. If you need a refresher on Heroic mechanics, please visit the Heroic version of this boss's guide.

Mythic Changes

  • This fight is a notable step up in difficulty from the first 3 bosses. Just be ready for that.

  • When Ashvane casts Rippling Wave, the furthest Coral Growth releases a supersized Rippling Wave

    • If the Empowered wave reaches Ashvane, it regenerates 30% of her shield and deals 207k to the raid

    • Shrinks every time someone touches it, but each soak deals 69k damage to the raid

    • Each soak also applies 1 stack of Waterlogged

    • Needs to be soaked 3 times

    • The other Coral still release little bubbles that need to be soaked

  • Waterlogged has been changed up. It’s a 24 second DoT on Heroic. It’s a 20 MINUTE DoT on Mythic, meaning essentially the entire fight until you die or win

    • This is applied whether you soak one of the regular Rippling Waves, or an Empowered wave.

    • Deals 26k/3s

  • In Phase 2, when you break a Coral Growth with Arcing Azerite, it explodes, leaving swirlies on the ground. After 5s, the swirlies deal 69k damage in a 4 yard area

    • If any of these swirlies explodes un-soaked, a new Coral Growth spawns at that location

  • Hardened Carapace has been reduced to 30% of the bosses HP, but still scales up at the same rate. The first Shield absorbs 35.13 million damage, 2nd absorbs 52.7 mil damage, 3rd absorbs 70.26 mil damage, and the boss has 117.11 mil HP.

  • Everything else works the same, just hits harder

Strategy

  • The most doable strategy on this fight right now is actually a “cheesy” strat, using a raid comp of 3 tank, 3 heal, 14 DPS.

  • We’ll call the Carapace phase the Shield phase, and the Arcing Azerite phase the Burn phase from this point forward. We’ll also break the Strategy section up, with an overview, 3rd Tank section, and healer section, with a TLDR of the Rippling Waves

  • There are push timings you want to aim for, to finish the Shield phase and enter the Burn phase

    • You want to break the first Shield by about 0:54. The second set of Rippling Waves spawns at 0:45, so pushing at 0:54 gives you enough time to kite the boss slightly so the Waves don’t touch until the Shield breaks

    • You want to then break the 2nd Shield by about 3:38. Again, this lets you prevent taking stacks from Rippling Waves, but this time it’ll be the 3rd set.

    • You want to break the 3rd Shield by about 7:00. This time, you’re trying to push before a 5th set of Rippling Waves spawns

  • Rippling Waves spawn at 0:15, then every 30 seconds. This timing stays steady each time you enter a Shield phase, 15 seconds after the Shield is cast then every 30s.

    • You want healing CDs available for this. More info in the healer section below

  • Prioritize using damage CDs for when you’re in a Burn phase. That’s the most important time to deal damage to the boss, and the DPS check to kill her within 3 burn phases is tight.

    • Lust during the 3rd Shield phase

  • You get 1:05 per Burn phase

  • Primary 2 tanks

    • Try to reduce the size of Cutting Corals on the ground as much as possible. When Ashvane is about to cast Barnacle Bash, move into old Cutting Coral to drop the new one on top of the old one

    • Other than that, this is largely the same as heroic for the 2 regular tanks

    • If a Coral Growth spawns near the boss, move her away from it

    • If you are CLOSE to breaking the Shield when waves spawn, the active tank on the boss needs to kite the boss away from the waves to prevent them from hitting before the Shield breaks. This allows the tank on soak duty to not need to gain those stacks

  • Arcing Azerite

    • Works the same as heroic, but after destroying a Coral leaves soak puddles on the ground

    • For the love of Azeroth, make sure you soak these puddles. Each one unsoaked spawns a new Coral Growth. Letting this happen is a great way to have a bad time

  • Past this, handle the rest of the mechanics like heroic. Dodge things that look bad.

  • You will have an assigned soaker tank, and they will die around 3:10. Stop healing them after the 2nd set of Waves during the 2nd Shield, and let them die. See 3rd Tank Soaker Job section

  • You will NEED to save a battle rez for around the 5:10 mark. At that point, Rez your soaker tank. They’ll soak the first set of Waves of the third Shield with bubble, then die again.

    • Or, have a resto shaman (lul). I know I know, but APT is super OP for this, as it frees up a battle rez

  • To review - your raid (meaning not your soaker) will ignore soaking both spawns of Rippling Wave in the first Shield, all 3 set during the 2nd Shield, and the first set during the 3rd Shield

    • During the 3rd Shield, one of your 2 regular tanks is responsible for soaking all the Waves for the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th Rippling Waves

    • Whichever tank you assign to this, will also intentionally die. This tank will die after soaking the 4th Rippling Wave, and have 20+ stacks

3rd Tank Soaker Job

  • The primary reason for this job existing is handling Waterlogged in the most efficient way possible

    • Your 3rd tank is responsible for soaking all or almost all Rippling Waves in the first and second Shield phase

    • Recommend a tank with self-heals, Prot Pally or BDK. Prot Pally is better due to being able to Bubble at a set time

    • Rippling Waves spawn at 0:15, then every 30 seconds. This timing stays steady each time you’re in the Shield phase - first Rippling is 15 seconds after the phase starts, then every 30 seconds

    • Any time Rippling Waves spawn in the first or second Shield phase, you (the soak slut) are responsible for soaking them and taking the Waterlogged stacks

      • If you have a wave spawn right next to the boss, a melee or another tank may need to soak it. This should be minimal

    • If the Shield breaks while waves are on their way to the boss, do NOT soak these. Let them hit the boss. They will deal AoE damage, but nobody gets stacks

      • This is up to your other tanks to make sure the boss is moved. Call out to them if necessary

    • In a perfect world, you will soak all of the stacks in the first 2 Shield phases. If the raid DPS hits the timer breakpoints, you’ll end first Shield with 5 stacks, 2nd shield with 18.

      • When you are about to soak the 2nd set of waves during the 2nd Shield, pop all of your big defensive CDs so you actually survive long enough to soak them all.

    • As soon as you finish soaking the 2nd set of waves on the 2nd Shield, YOU SHOULD DIE. Having your healers try to heal you through 300k+ damage per tick is pure evil. Don’t be evil. Just die.

    • When you begin the 3rd Shield phase, you need to receive a Battle Rez. DO NOT TAKE IT RIGHT AWAY.

    • Take this rez once the first set of Rippling Waves on the third Shield spawn. Immediately cast your bubble, run and soak every wave. Then die again when your bubble expires, and you’re done for the fight

    • You were a good little Paladin. GGs. You will be missed (not really)

    • By doing all of this, you effectively remove up to 23 stacks of Waterlogged DoT from the fight, reducing the healing requirement drastically

Healer Concerns

  • Each time a Rippling Wave is soaked, the raid takes about 50k damage.

  • You want a healer CD for each set of Waves. Time this for when they get soaked, not exactly when they spawn

    • Plan for 0:20, 0:50, 2:25, 2:55, 3:25, 5:10, 5:40, 6:10, 6:40. Each of these is give/take a few seconds.

    • The sets at 3:25, 6:10, and 6:40 are the highest damage and worst to deal with, since they’ll have the most Waves to be soaked

    • Your CD setup will vary based on your healing comp, but focus on these timings. Start with the highest damage soak groups above, assigning the most powerful CDs to that, and work backwards from there to fill.

    • The very first set of Waves of each Shield phase doesn’t necessarily need a CD, if you need to hold off for later waves. This set will deal about 250k-ish total damage to each raid member over the time it takes your Pally friend to soak everything.

  • Your Pally soaker friend needs some loving. They’ll have 5 stacks of Waterlogged from 0:20 into the fight until the 2:25 set, then they’ll get another 5 stacks. They’ll stay at 10 until the 2:55 wave, when they’ll spike to 18. Once they’ve soaked all 8 stacks in that set, forget that they’re your friend, and laugh as they die horribly. Don’t heal them. Their job is to die, your job is to laugh when they die.

  • During the 3rd Shield phase, one of your other 2 tanks will start accumulating a large amount of stacks of Waterlogged. Just keep them alive.

TL:DR of Waterlogged/Rippling Waves

  • Shield 1

    • Wave 1 - Soak Slut (pally tank)

    • Wave 2 - no soaks, let hit boss. Push before these waves reach boss. Kite if necessary

  • Shield 2

    • Wave 1 - Soak Slut

    • Wave 2 - Soak Slut. Die after soaking all

    • Wave 3 - no soaks, let hit boss. Push before these waves reach boss. Kite if necessary

  • Shield 3

    • Wave 1 - Soak Slut, brez + Bubble

    • Wave 2 - 2nd tank soaker

    • Wave 3 - 2nd tank soaker

    • Wave 4 - 2nd tank soaker. Die after soaking all

    • Wave 5 - no soaks, let hit boss. Push before these waves reach boss.
