Lady Ashvane

Two stage fight against an ugly Alliance person who wanted more power and basically got radioactively transformed by Azshara.

Encounter-Wide Mechanics

  • Hardened Carapace

    • The boss spawns with an absorb shield, worth 40% of her max HP pool

    • Stage 1 lasts whenever the Hardened Carapace is up and absorbing damage

    • Stage 2 begins when the Carapace is destroyed

    • Stage 2 lasts 1:05.

    • When a Stage 2 ends, the Hardened Carapace is reapplied on the boss, but for 150% increased absorb.

      • Therefore, the 2nd time you need to destroy the Carapace, it’s 100% of the bosses HP. The 3rd time, it’s 250% of her HP, and so on

  • Barnacle Bash

    • Slam on the active tank, deals 151k Physical damage, and increased damage taken by subsequent Bash’s by 150% for 35s

      • Stacks

    • Wherever the boss is standing when the Bash goes off, a Cutting Coral spawns

      • Basically a circle of bad that you don’t want to stand in. Deals 50k Nature damage every 1.5s to anyone standing in it

    • This ability forces both tank swaps, and also moving the boss around the room tactically

    • Cast every 15s. Can be Parried/Dodged, and if that occurs, the Cutting Coral didn’t spawn

      • This seemed very likely to be a bug on PTR

  • Briny Bubble

    • Ability targeted at 3 players, applies a 6 second debuff, and a 12 yard targeting circle around the affected players

    • After 6s, the players explode, becoming encased in a bubble. Any additional players in the circles also become encased in a bubble

      • Incapacitated while in a bubble

      • Bubbles have to be killed to release the players

      • On PTR, you could use immunities to break out of bubbles instantly

    • Cast roughly every 45 second

    • The active tank is always one of the 3 targeted players

  • Upsurge

    • Boss creates a series of 4 small blue swirlies on the ground

    • If you stand in the swirlie when it explodes, you take 101k Frost damage and are knocked into the air

    • Don’t get hit, duh

    • Cast at about 0:20, then roughly every 16 seconds after that

Stage 1 - Hardened Carapace Active

  • Coral Growth

    • Creates two large brownish swirlies. After a few seconds, giant chunks of Coral pop out through the swirlies

      • Anyone hit takes 55k Nature damage, and is knocked back

      • These Corals last indefinitely, but can be destroyed using a Stage 2 mechanic which we’ll talk about later

    • Cast almost immediately upon starting the encounter, then every 30 during Stage 1s

  • Rippling Wave

    • The most beautiful looking boss around stomps the ground, causing all Coral Growths to spawn a Rippling Wave

      • Basically looks like a small floating bubble

      • The Waves move slowly towards Ashvane

      • Any Waves that reach Ashvane regenerate 10% of her Hardened Carapace, and deal 55k Frost damage to the raid

    • You don’t want these Waves reaching the boss

      • If someone soaks a Wave instead, it still deals 55k Frost to the raid, but does NOT regenerate the boss’s Carapace

    • Waterlogged

      • Anyone who soaks a Wave hit is afflicted with the Waterlogged DoT, deals 25k Frost damage every 3s for 15s

      • Stacks

    • Cast at 0:13, then every 32 seconds after that during Stage 1s

      • First cast in subsequent Stage 1s is about 13-16s after the Carapace reapplies

  • Boss also casts Barnacle Bash, Briny Bubble, and Upsurge all off Stage 1

Stage 2 - Exposed Azerite

  • After you blow up the Hardened Carapace, you enter Stage 2, and can deal damage directly to the boss’s health pool

    • She gains two new abilities, and drops the two Stage 1 abilities

  • Exposed Azerite

    • Ashvane periodically zaps several people with Exposed Azerite, dealing 25k Arcane damage to the affected players

    • Number of players affected scales with raid size

    • Occurs every 3s during Stage 2

  • Arcing Azerite

    • Ashvane debuffs 6 people total, lasts 8s

    • There are 3 different color debuffs you can get

    • Each color will be affecting two people

    • After 8s, a blast shoots between people of the same color

      • Any players hit by a blast take 101k Arcane damage

      • More importantly, if this blast hits a Coral Growth, it destroys the Coral

    • Therefore, you want to focus on aiming these blasts to hit as many Coral as possible

    • First set of Arcing Azerite occurs about 17 seconds after Stage 2 begins

    • Second set occurs 30s after the first set shoots their blast

    • The active tank is always one of the 6 affected players

  • The goal of Stage 2 is to focus on the Arcing Azerites, and destroy most or all of the active Coral Growths

    • Any Coral that isn’t destroyed will continue spawning Rippling Waves when you re-enter Stage 1

  • The boss continues casting Briny Bubble, Upsurge, and Barnacle Bash

Strategy

  • Stage 1

    • The focus of Stage 1 is control. You want to control where the Cutting Coral is spawned on the ground, when the Rippling Waves are soaked, and where the people affected by Briny Bubble should stack

    • Recommend tanking the boss at the edge of the room, and moving in a circular pattern around the edges as necessary

      • Move whenever Cutting Coral spawns under you, or a Coral Growth is too close to melee

      • Whatever direction you go, all 3 people with Briny Bubble should stack ~15-20 yards ahead of where the tank and melee currently are

        • Minimizing the distance between the Bubbles and the rest of the raid reduces downtime to get them killed

        • Having the affected players go ahead of where the tank is, but the same direction, will help prevent them from getting caught in Cutting Coral or other bad things

        • Kill bubbles ASAP

    • Don’t get hit by Upsurge.

      • Ranged and healers should be loosely spread, to help ensure there are ample safe spots from Upsurge

    • Assign soakers for Rippling Waves

      • We recommend utilizing immunities here, as the DoT can get to be rather dangerous after a few stacks

      • Make sure the soakers are coordinating with the healers.

      • There will be times late into Stage 1s where there are 4, 6, even 8 Coral Growths, meaning an equal amount of Rippling Waves

        • If you pop 6 Waves at the same time, at 50k damage each, that’s 300k on the raid. Not a good idea, unless you pop some major defensives

    • Tanks should just swap when the active tank is affected by Briny Bubble

  • Stage 2

    • The focus here is destroying as many Coral as possible, and maximizing DPS on the boss

    • If you’re affected by an Arcing Azerite, make sure you aim properly and destroy a Coral

      • Other players, do NOT stand in the way of a blast

    • Recommend using Lust during the 2nd Stage 2, when CDs should be back up

      • With the most current tuning, it should take between 1:30 and 1:50 to burn through the first Carapace, 1:05 for Stage 2. You can use 2 minute CDs safely during the first Stage 2. Don’t use CDs during the 2nd Carapace, and blow everything you can on the 2nd Stage 2.

    • Tanks swap as necessary, with Briny Bubble and Arcing Azerite

    • Continue dodging the little blue swirlies

      • Ranged and healers should continue being loosely spread, to ensure ample safe spots for Upsurge

    • Continue handing Briny Bubble as you did in Stage 1, slightly ahead of where the boss is going, and kill asap

  • Based on final tuning, it seems like the goal is to kill the boss before the end of the 2nd Stage 2, as the 3rd Stage 1 Carapace would be extremely long to slog through. We’ll provide an update once the fight is live and we can see the exact HP tuning. With the 3rd Stage 1 having a Carapace for 2.5x the bosses total HP, you want the boss dead before that.
